Baseball Recap: Tates Creek Takes a Loss

If Tates Creek was riding high fresh off their 17-4 takedown of Corbin last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tates Creek came up short against the Somerset Briar Jumpers on Tuesday, falling 9-2. The Commodores were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Briar Jumpers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Tates Creek got a good showing from Carter Gilliam, who pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Gilliam has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Aaron Hobson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Finley Insko also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Tates Creek's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Somerset, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tates Creek will challenge Eastern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Tates Creek surely won't give up without a fight. As for Somerset, they will face off against Wayne County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
