Basketball Game Preview: Gates County Red Barons vs. Perquimans Pirates

The Gates County Red Barons will head out on the road to take on the Perquimans Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Gates County earned a 45-34 win over Bertie. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Barons.

Meanwhile, Perquimans can bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 68-57 victory over North East Carolina Prep.

Gates County better keep an eye on Nyquan Riddick. He was instrumental in Perquimans' win, putting up 22 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Spellman, who posted 18 points and three steals.

Perquimans smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Gates County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Perquimans, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 3-16.

Gates County beat Perquimans 61-48 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gates County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
