Baseball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Nelson County's offense. They came up short against the Appomattox County Raiders on Wednesday, falling 9-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Governors were not able to get on the board.

Nelson County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Ferguson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Ferguson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Nelson County and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Appomattox County, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nelson County will challenge Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Ospreys' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Governors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Appomattox County, they will square off against Buckingham at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
