Softball Recap: Williston Red Devils vs. Santa Fe Raiders

Williston lost against Santa Fe back in March, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Williston Red Devils fell 8-3 to the Santa Fe Raiders.

Brooklynn Bertrand and Luna Asencion stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bertrand scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Asencion went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

On Santa Fe's side, they got a great performance from Sarah Burns as she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Burns has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Santa Fe let Gracie Mattson and Maren Hornsby loose on the outfield. Mattson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Hornsby scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Williston will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Williston surely won't give up without a fight. As for Santa Fe, they will head out on the road to square off against Menendez at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Menendez's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
