Lafayette Central Catholic is a perfect 4-0 against Clinton Prairie since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gophers at 6:00 p.m.
Lafayette Central Catholic blew Rossville out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Rossville got their revenge. The Knights fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 7-5. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Clinton Prairie had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gophers, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Alex King made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Clinton Prairie let Luke Harshbarger and Elijah Edwards run wild. Harshbarger went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Edwards went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Edwards has posted since back in May of 2024. Ben Schlicher was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Clinton Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matches.
Clinton Prairie pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Lafayette Central Catholic skirted past Clinton Prairie 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Gophers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
