Baseball Recap: Binghamton Comes Up Short

Binghamton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the Vestal Golden Bears, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, with their most recent defeat being a 20-0 loss on Thursday.

As for Vestal, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season so far.

For Vestal's part, Ben Tanton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Tanton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Gavin Brady was a standout: he fired off four runs, four doubles, and three RBI while going 5-for-5. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Colin Fimbres, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Binghamton will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cortland at 11:00 a.m. As for Vestal, they will venture away from home to challenge Johnson City at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
