Basketball Recap: Alexander Central's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Alexander Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 61-53 to the South Caldwell Spartans. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Alexander Central still got an impressive performance from Jayon Connor, who almost dropped a double-double on 31 points and nine boards. The match was Connor's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Koa Mikeal, who posted eight points.

Alexander Central's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-8. As for South Caldwell, their record is now 11-5.

Alexander Central and South Caldwell should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Alexander Central (ranked 245th) will meet Hibriten (ranked 549th) at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season. Meanwhile, South Caldwell will square off against Ashe County at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 306 places (133 vs. 439).
