Baseball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Plainville Blue Devils

The Southington Blue Knights will face off against the Plainville Blue Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainville took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Southington, who comes in off a win.

Southington can't be too worried about heading out to take on Plainville: they just beat New Britain at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Blue Knights blew past the Golden Hurricanes 13-5 on Monday. Considering the Blue Knights have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Southington got a massive performance out of Mark Zigmont, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Zigmont has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Colin LaRosa, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Plainville came up short against Edwin O. Smith on Friday and fell 7-2. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Southington is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Plainville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
