Preview: Pearland Oilers vs. Alief Hastings Bears
Pearland is 9-1 against Alief Hastings since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Pearland Oilers will head out on the road to face off against the Alief Hastings Bears at 7:00 p.m. Pearland will be strutting in after a victory while Alief Hastings will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Wednesday, Pearland didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Strake Jesuit, but they still walked away with a 58-54 win. Given Pearland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Strake Jesuit is ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Alief Hastings' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alvin.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Amari Wilkerson, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wembo Fernandes, who scored ten points.
Pearland's victory bumped their record up to 15-11. As for Alief Hastings, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.
Pearland beat Alief Hastings 63-50 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Does Pearland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Alief Hastings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
