Softball Recap: Waskom's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Waskom had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over the Elysian Fields Yellowjackets on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Yellowjackets last Tuesday, they had to take a 16-11 loss.

Jada Spencer was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maci Barbo, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

Waskom's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 6-14. As for Elysian Fields, they dropped their record down to 3-20 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waskom will welcome Ore City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Elysian Fields, they will be playing at home against Carlisle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
