Softball Recap: Williamsville North Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Williamsville North had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Cheektowaga on Saturday. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Chargers. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chargers, too.

Bella McCormick made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Anna Pogodzinski was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Schmidt, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Williamsville North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheektowaga only managed two hits.

Williamsville North pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cheektowaga, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

As of now, neither Williamsville North nor the Chargers have any future games scheduled.
