Baseball Recap: Fruitport Comes Up Short

Fruitport fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hopkins on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 on Thursday.

This is the second loss in a row for Fruitport and nudges their season record down to 19-3. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Hopkins, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-7 record this season.

While Fruitport had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
