Football Game Preview: Center Roughriders vs. Brownsboro Bears

Center has gone a perfect 5-0 against Brownsboro recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Roughriders will head out to take on the Bears at 7:30 p.m. Center will be strutting in after a victory while Brownsboro will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Center turned things around against Bullard on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 44-27 win over the Panthers.

Center's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaysis Villegas, who rushed for 172 yards and two scores while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Those 172 rushing yards gave Villegas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Bluford, who rushed for 151 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Center was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 428 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bullard only rushed for 155.

Center's defense stepped up as well, laying out Micah Skaggs four times. Grant Gregory was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.

Meanwhile, Brownsboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rusk. While the Bears had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Eagles 21-7.

Although Brownsboro took the loss, they still got scores from Lane Irwin, Aiden Mitchem, and Jack Anderson.

Brownsboro's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Center, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Everything came up roses for Center against Brownsboro when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughriders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
