Recap: Newport Grizzlies vs. Freeman Scotties
This season hasn't been kind to the Newport Grizzlies, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They had to suffer through a rough 74-24 loss at the hands of Freeman. Newport was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-13.
Taylee Phelps continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Freeman, scoring 34 points. The game was Phelps' 12th in a row with at least ten points. Avery Gass was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Newport bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.1 points per game. As for Freeman, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Newport will head out on the road to face off against Selkirk at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Washington (Selkirk is ranked 238th, while Newport is ranked 242nd). As for Freeman, they will be playing at home against Riverside at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
