Basketball Game Preview: Eastern Eagles vs. Shawnee Golden Eagles

Eastern has gone a perfect 3-0 against Shawnee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Eagles duke it out with the Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Eastern knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Shawnee likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Eastern was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 76-70 to Ballard. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (56), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 80-49, which was the final score in Shawnee's tilt against DuPont Manual on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Crimsons are ranked tenth).

Shawnee's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-15. As for Eastern, they dropped their record down to 12-15 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Eastern took their victory against Shawnee in their previous matchup back in February of 2019 by a conclusive 67-47. Will Eastern repeat their success, or does Shawnee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
