Softball Recap: Union County Patriots vs. Gibbs Eagles
Union County had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 10-8 to make it four. They lost 10-0 to the Gibbs Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-6 back in March.
As for Gibbs, their victory bumped their record up to 24-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
For Gibbs' part, Malyiah Smith was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Smith has posted since back in March. Shelby Williams was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union County will head out to take on Claiborne at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Bulldogs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Gibbs, they are taking a road trip to face off against Morristown-Hamblen West at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 2.4, the Trojans 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
