Football Recap: East Carteret's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

East Carteret won against Southside last Friday with 49 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Mariners beat the Lejeune Devilpups by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 49-13. The Mariners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 20 points or more this season.

East Carteret's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luke McIntosh, who threw for 297 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. What's more, McIntosh racked up 163.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Jackson Greene was in the mix as well, providing East Carteret with two TDs.

East Carteret's run defense was locked in: Lejeune could only muster 1.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Myles Shelton for the heroic effort on defense: he. East Carteret's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.53 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed nine on average over their last five games.

Special teams played a big role in the game for East Carteret, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Shelton, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

The victory (which was East Carteret's third in a row) raised their record to 3-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.3 points over those games. As for Lejeune, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, East Carteret will face off against Northside - Pinetown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mariners will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games. As for Lejeune, they will square off against Jones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Devilpups will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 46 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
