Softball Recap: Preston Knights vs. Philip Barbour Colts
Preston had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-18 to make it five. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Philip Barbour Colts. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-6 on Saturday.
Sophie Zinn made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Mckenzie Price was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
As for Philip Barbour, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-11-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.
On Philip Barbour's side, Avery McDaniel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McDaniel was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stefanie Barker, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Paige Starkey also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
