Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Thornwell's Fourth in Last Five Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McCormick, Thornwell was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Whitmire Wolverines by a score of 64-54. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 71-61 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Whitmire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braylen Sartor went 9-for-18 en route to 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sartor has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kayshaun Schumpert, who posted 11 points.

Thornwell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points over those games. As for Whitmire, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-20.

Coming up, Thornwell and Ware Shoals will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. Ware Shoals knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Thornwell likes a good challenge. Whitmire does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
