Football Recap: Navasota Rattlers vs. La Grange Leopards

After flying high against Waco last Friday, Navasota came back down to earth. The Navasota Rattlers took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Grange Leopards. The Rattlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Leopards apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.

Navasota wouldn't let La Grange keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Ashten Myles was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance. He also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 17. Another thorn in La Grange's side was Kyle Taylor, who made 19 total tackles and defended two passes.

It was another big night for Clayton Cooper, who rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 108 yards and a touchdown for La Grange. With that strong performance, Cooper is now averaging an impressive 104 rushing yards per game.

Navasota now has a losing record at 2-3. As for La Grange, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

After each having a week off, Navasota and Needville will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 11th. Navasota is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for La Grange, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Madisonville at 7:30 a.m. on October 11th. One thing working in La Grange's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
