Preview: Northview Vikings vs. Orange Vista Coyotes
The Northview Vikings and the Orange Vista Coyotes will round out the year against one another at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Northview didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Varsity Opponent, but they still walked away with a 44-38 win. The win was just what Northview needed coming off of a 59-30 defeat in their prior match.
Northview can attribute much of their success to Adrian Almaraz, who scored 17 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Almaraz scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Sam Osi, who scored ten points.
Orange Vista has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 29 points or more this season. They blew past Temecula Prep 78-47 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-16.
Orange Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eric Wooten led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Wooten is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Suttle, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Northview pushed their record up to 11-3 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Orange Vista, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Northview have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 40.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Orange Vista struggles in that department as they've nailed 47.9% of their threes per game this season.
