Phillipsburg picks up ninth straight win on the road

Recap: Phillipsburg Stateliners vs. Hunterdon Central Red Devils

Even though the Hunterdon Central Red Devils scored an imposing 59 points on Monday, the Phillipsburg Stateliners still came out on top. Phillipsburg walked away with a 68-59 win over Hunterdon Central. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Hunterdon Central is ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Phillipsburg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Scerbo jr., who scored 33 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scerbo jr. has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ameer Herran, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Phillipsburg pushed their record up to 21-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Hunterdon Central, their loss dropped their record down to 18-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg will take on North Hunterdon at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hunterdon Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against The Pingry School at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. The Pingry School will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Hunterdon Central surely won't give up without a fight.
