Baseball Recap: Cave City Comes Up Short

Cave City had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 9-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Salem Greyhounds, falling 11-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Cavemen were not able to get on the board.

As for Salem, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.

For Salem's part, Kamden Turner made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Turner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Salem is 7-1 when Turner posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Birmingham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Aiden Province was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cave City will welcome Flippin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Salem, they will host Midland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight contests.
