Baseball Recap: Southington's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

With a playoff win on the line, Southington rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They never let the Staples Wreckers get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Knights, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Ryan DeGumbia's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mark Zigmont was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Widger, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The win (which was Southington's fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Staples, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

As of now, neither Southington nor the Wreckers have any future games scheduled.
