Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against University School of Milwaukee, Heritage Christian was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the St. Francis Mariners, sneaking past 75-73. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mariners, too.

Heritage Christian found their leader in sophomore Chase Porter, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Riebe, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

Heritage Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Francis only racked up 12 assists.

St. Francis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zamiel Cruz, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Cruz is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least 11 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Nerby, who went 9 of 21 on his way to 24 points.

Heritage Christian's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4. As for St. Francis, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-2.

Heritage Christian will venture away from home to challenge Lake Country Lutheran at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Francis, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-39 loss against Milwaukee School of Languages on the 14th.
