Baseball Recap: Stockdale Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stockdale). They came out on top against the Clovis Cougars by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2019.

Gabriel Borja looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brock Johnson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Charlie Ryder, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Stockdale lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Stockdale's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games. As for Clovis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Stockdale will challenge Notre Dame (SO) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Clovis, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Clovis Cougars face off against Kerman Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kerman's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Clovis' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
