Baseball Recap: Mt. Eden Takes a Loss

Mt. Eden made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Newark Memorial, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Monarchs fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. The Monarchs haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Javier Alfaro III put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Alfaro III wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cristian Alvarenga, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Alvarenga has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Mt. Eden's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Newark Memorial, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-3.

Coming up, Mt. Eden will square off against San Lorenzo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Monarchs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 12.1 runs per game this season. As for Newark Memorial, they will take on Skyline II at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
