Baseball Recap: Hellgate Comes Up Short

Hellgate extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Butte Bulldogs. On the bright side, the 11- run effort marked the Knights' highest-scoring contest to date.

As for Butte, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Butte's part, the team relied heavily on Cayde Stajcar, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Stajcar a new career-high. Tegan Duffy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hellgate will face off against Glacier at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Butte, they will square off against Big Sky at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
