Basketball Recap: Ten Straight Home Wins for Panguitch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Panguitch). Everything went their way against the Green River Pirates on Tuesday as the Panguitch Bobcats made off with an 83-62 win. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Pirates are ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Panguitch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daxton Miller led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. What's more, Miller also racked up five steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Maddix Johnson was another key player, going 7 for 13 on his way to 21 points.

Green River's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jason Hernandez, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and four steals, and Rolando Anguiano, who posted 21 points. The match was Hernandez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Macias, who had eight points and three steals.

Panguitch's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Green River, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panguitch Bobcats challenge the Maeser Prep Academy Lions at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Maeser Prep Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Panguitch surely won't give up without a fight. As for Green River, they will face off against Piute at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
