Preview: Merit Preparatory Academy Knights vs. Intermountain Christian Lions
Merit Preparatory Academy is 0-4 against Intermountain Christian since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Intermountain Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Lizbeth Diaz and Elaine Lunsford.
After soaring to 56 points the game before, Merit Preparatory Academy were a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 59-19 loss at the hands of Rockwell. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Merit Preparatory Academy has suffered yet this season.
Merit Preparatory Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Diaz, who scored six points along with three blocks. That's the first time this season that Diaz posted two or more blocks.
In what's become a running theme this season, Intermountain Christian gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Wasatch Academy 58-8 at home. With Intermountain Christian ahead 34-5 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Makenna Stoddard was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lunsford, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Merit Preparatory Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Intermountain Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Merit Preparatory Academy ended up a good deal behind Intermountain Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2017, losing 47-30. Can Merit Preparatory Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
