The Maranacook Black Bears are taking a road trip to square off against the Lisbon Greyhounds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Maranacook will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Friday, Maranacook needed a bit of extra time to put away Mount Abram. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Roadrunners, sneaking past 5-4.
Grady Hreben was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Hreben was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Longfellow, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Walker Dumas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lisbon and Winthrop, and Winthrop kept the tradition alive. The Greyhounds fell just short of the Ramblers by a score of 7-6 on Friday.
Like Maranacook, Lisbon also got a great game from a two-way player: JT Hoyle. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hoyle was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cyrus Tefft was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Jacob Fitzsimmons was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Maranacook's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lisbon, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maranacook has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lisbon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Maranacook's way against Lisbon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Maranacook made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Black Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
