Basketball Game Preview: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Southeast Guilford Falcons

A classic East v. West matchup is on the schedule. The Western Guilford Hornets will take on the Southeast Guilford Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Guilford is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Western Guilford's last matchup with Northern Guilford could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. Western Guilford was dealt a 77-27 loss at the hands of Northern Guilford. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Southeast Guilford suffered their closest defeat since February 13, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Northwest Guilford by a score of 62-59. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while the Vikings are ranked 191st).

Western Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Southeast Guilford, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Western Guilford strolled past Southeast Guilford in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 59-43. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Southeast Guilford's Jayce Brannon, who went 7 for 11 en route to 22 points along with six assists and five steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Western Guilford still be able to contain Brannon? There's only one way to find out.
