Football Game Preview: Lamar Vikings vs. Grand Prairie Gophers + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Tayrone Thomas and Xavier Clinton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lamar Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Grand Prairie Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lamar has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 128 points over their last three contests.

On Thursday, Lamar came up short against Bowie and fell 45-38. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (35), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Lamar's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Shaw, who threw for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Khamill Pruitt, who picked up 106 receiving yards and two TDs.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 35 points the game before, Grand Prairie was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They took a blow against Arlington, falling 49-7. While losing is never fun, the Gophers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 714th, while the Colts are ranked 271st).

Lamar now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Grand Prairie, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Lamar took their win against Grand Prairie in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 35-14 score. In that matchup, the Vikings amassed a halftime lead of 28-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
