Iola-Scandinavia dropped their record down to 5-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Amherst Falcons, falling 10-3. The Thunderbirds were not able to make up for their loss to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Amherst, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games.

For Amherst's part, AJ O'Brien made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. O'Brien has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Hintz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Ethan Peskie was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Iola-Scandinavia will take on Marion at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Amherst, they will square off against Menominee Indian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
