Basketball Recap: Antonio Gonzalez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Oglethorpe County

Banks County won the last time they faced Oglethorpe County and things went their way on Friday too. The Banks County Leopards managed a 61-56 win over the Oglethorpe County Patriots. Given the Leopards' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Patriots are ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Banks County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Antonio Gonzalez out in front who went 7 for 13 en route to 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Kolby Watson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards.

Banks County pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Oglethorpe County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Banks County has already played their next matchup, a 64-51 victory against Commerce on the 25th. As for Oglethorpe County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Athens Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
