Preview: Buna Cougars vs. Hardin Hornets
Buna is 7-0 against Hardin since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Buna Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Hardin Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Hardin took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Buna, who comes in off a win.
Buna fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tarkington 28-25.
Buna can attribute much of their success to Jacob Johnson, who rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
Meanwhile, Hardin's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 35-0 loss at the hands of East Chambers. While losing is never fun, Hardin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 887th, while East Chambers is ranked 385th).
Buna now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Hardin, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6.
Everything came up roses for Buna against Hardin when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 41-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Buna since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
