Basketball Recap: First Assembly Christian Crusaders vs. St. George's Gryphons
The First Assembly Christian Crusaders had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 70-49 margin over St. George. Given First Assembly Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Gryphons are ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, St. George's saw an underclassman step up: Tristan Farris scored 25 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farris has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Jones, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
First Assembly Christian pushed their record up to 20-3 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for St. George's, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
First Assembly Christian will be playing at home against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. George's, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lynx at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
