Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Young's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Palisades over South Point

While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Palisades was not quite South Point's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 47-35 to the South Point Red Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Pumas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 155th).

Several Pumas players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooklyn Young, who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tynilla Simpkins, who put up two points and five steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Point to victory, but perhaps none more so than Toney Milton, who had nine points along with seven boards and six steals. Milton has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Rowen Trexler was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Palisades and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for South Point, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Palisades wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-27 victory against Highland Tech on the 28th. As for South Point, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-26 win against Catawba Ridge on the 28th.
