Baseball Recap: Western Takes a Loss

Western extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-4 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Mason Bulldogs. The game marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.

As for Mason, the win keeps they at an undefeated 6-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Mason's part, Colton McCaleb made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. McCaleb has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Mason got a massive performance out of Wyatt Ball, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was Ball's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddox Armour, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Western will square off against Marshall at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mason, they are taking a road trip to square off against Portland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
