Baseball Recap: Northgate Has No Trouble Against Concord

Northgate won the last time they faced Concord and things went their way on Thursday too. The Broncos blew past the Bears 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Nate Luehs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Christopher Flores was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Blayne Ballard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Northgate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Northgate has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Concord, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Northgate is set to square off against their familiar foe Mt. Diablo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Concord will take on rival Miramonte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
