Football Recap: Sanger Apaches vs. Kingsburg Vikings

Sanger proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 40) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Kingsburg Vikings 20-17. This was payback for the Apaches, who suffered a 7-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Bryson Baker was his usual excellent self, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2023.

Sanger was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kingsburg only rushed for 65.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sanger's defense and their five sacks. Cody Coles was especially locked on to Kingsburg's QB and sacked him twice.

Despite the defeat, Kingsburg saw an underclassman step up: Cooper Holt picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Those 102 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Holt.

Sanger now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Kingsburg, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sanger will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bullard at 7:30 p.m. on October 4th. Kingsburg will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Washington Union at 7:30 p.m. on October 4th.
