The Forge Christian Fury will challenge the Highland Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Forge Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, everything came up roses for Forge Christian against Denver Christian as the team secured a 42-7 victory. Considering the Fury have won seven games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Quentin Torres continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 199 yards and three scores on only eight carries, while also picking up 38 receiving yards and one touchdown. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending one pass.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Forge Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 317 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups.
Forge Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Raleigh Cleveland, Jonah Boykin, and Hayden Hall picked up one apiece. Cleveland got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Highland was not quite Platte Valley's equal in the second half on Friday. They came up short against the Broncos, falling 35-14. That makes it the first time this season the Huskies have let down their home crowd.
Forge Christian will have to contain Tyler Varra as he made an impact in Highland's last game. He threw for 200 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 47 yards and one score. A healthy portion of Varra's aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Daryan Shaw, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Highland's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Forge Christian, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Forge Christian has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 215.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 189.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
