Basketball Recap: Colonial Heights Sets Scoring Season-High Against Southampton

Colonial Heights scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 87-80 to the Southampton Indians. While losing is never fun, the Colonials can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Indians are ranked 133rd).

Colonial Heights lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cameron Hartsoe, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards. The match was Hartsoe's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Cartier Coleman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Colonial Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Colonial Heights' loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Southampton, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Colonial Heights will challenge Meadowbrook at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Colonial Heights is facing Meadowbrook at the right time seeing as Meadowbrook is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Southampton, they and Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
