Recap: Mitchell Mustangs vs. Gulf Buccaneers
The Mitchell Mustangs's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They snuck past Gulf with a 54-49 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mitchell also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Mitchell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Priya Jacob, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 13 times she's played. Brianna Coure was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 steals.
Gulf's loss came despite strong showings from Ariana Rodriguez and Brenniyah Hall. Rodriguez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 23 rebounds, while Hall scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Hall is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Mitchell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Gulf, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Mitchell will head out on the road to square off against River Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. River Ridge will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive. Gulf won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Robinson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Wednesday.
