Softball Recap: Whitney Young Beats Amundsen for Their Fifth Straight Win

Whitney Young extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 20-10-1 in the process. They came out on top against the Amundsen Vikings by a score of 6-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-4 back in April.

Liani Delgado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chiqui Vazquez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Itzel Jaime was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Amundsen, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-10. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Amundsen's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashley Ellevog, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Coming up, Whitney Young will welcome Taft at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Dolphins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Amundsen, they will head out on the road to challenge Niles North at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
