Basketball Game Preview: Mater Dei Monarchs vs. St. John Bosco Braves

The Mater Dei Monarchs will face off against the St. John Bosco Braves at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mater Dei is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.8 points per game this season.

Mater Dei will head out to face St. John Bosco after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. Mater Dei fell 62-52 to JSerra Catholic.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Blake Davidson, who posted 14 points and eight boards. Demarcus Henry was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Meanwhile, everything went St. John Bosco's way against Servite on Wednesday as St. John Bosco made off with a 76-50 win. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Mater Dei better keep an eye on Brandon McCoy Jr. He was instrumental in St. John Bosco's win, going 5 of 12 en route to 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals. That's the most assists McCoy Jr has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Christian Collins, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Mater Dei's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-6. As for St. John Bosco, their victory bumped their record up to 22-4.

Mater Dei came out on top in a nail-biter against St. John Bosco when the teams last played on January 10th, sneaking past 62-59. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was St. John Bosco's Elzie Harrington, who put up 26 points and five boards.
