Recap: Union Academy Cardinals vs. North Stanly Comets

The Union Academy Cardinals entered their tilt with the North Stanly Comets with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Union Academy walked away with a 74-62 victory over North Stanly on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Union Academy was led to victory by Paisley Boatright and Ranon Suttle. Boatright dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Suttle scored 26 points along with two steals. Boatright has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Brooks, who scored six points along with six assists and five steals.

Despite the loss, North Stanly still got an impressive performance from Shalyn Bell, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 24 rebounds. That was a full 51.6% of North Stanly's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lexie Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Union Academy pushed their record up to 13-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for North Stanly, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Academy will square off against Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Union Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. North Stanly is on the road again on Friday and plays Gray Stone Day at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. North Stanly is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
