Recap: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Primero Bulldogs
The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 51-26 walloping at the hands of Primero. Sangre de Cristo was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Primero apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Sangre de Cristo had strong showings from Deagon Rogers, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, and Ezra Lopez, who scored nine points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Rogers pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Sangre de Cristo's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Primero, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sangre de Cristo will take on Del Norte at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Primero won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Walsh at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Walsh is ranked 242nd, while Primero is ranked 232nd).
