The Schalmont Sabres will head out to take on the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Schalmont needed a bit of extra time to put away Lansingburgh. They skirted past the Knights 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Sabres as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Luke Iovinella was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Logan Mulyca also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Albany.
Tylor Haslam looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Alex Halwick was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was David McMullen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's record is now 2-3. As for Schalmont, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Schalmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Schalmont might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Sabres avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
