Preview: Floydada Whirlwinds vs. Olton Mustangs
After two games on the road, Floydada is heading back home. They will take on The Olton Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Floydada didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Post, but they still walked away with a 24-19 win.
Tyrean Henderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Henderson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Floydada also got help from Braun Hobbs who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, even though Tahoka scored an imposing 48 points on Friday, Olton still came out on top. Olton took down Tahoka 62-48. The win was just what Olton needed coming off of a 56-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Olton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Ruiz, who rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns. Raymond Ramirez was another key contributor, throwing for 277 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Floydada now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Olton, their win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Floydada came up short against Olton when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 39-27. Thankfully for Floydada, Logan Lassiter (who threw for 384 yards and five touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
